February may be Black History Month, but at Ross Family McDonald's we're grateful year-round for the impact Black Americans have made on our business. Because of that, we wanted to highlight Black inventors who changed the course of McDonald's history! ✊🏾
Thomas Stewart's invention isn't food related, but is invaluable in the restaurant industry! Thomas Stewart saw room for improvement in a common household item, and decided to work smarter not harder. Until his invention in 1883, all mops had to be hand rung, but Stewart patented the first self-wringing mop. He first designed a mop head that could be removed by unscrewing it from the base of the mop handle, allowing users to clean the head or discard it when it wore out. Next, he designed a lever attached to the mop head, which, when pulled, would wring water from the head without users getting their hands wet. While Stewart may not have invented the mop, his creativity saves time and ensures a healthier work environment in our stores! 🧹❤️

While Mary Beatrice Kenner's inventions aren't directly related to the food industry, we use her products every single day! North Carolina native, Mary Beatrice, with help from her sister Mildred Davidson, patented numerous inventions that have had long lasting effects, even in today's culture. One invention that specifically impacts all of us on a daily basis is her toilet paper dispenser. The dispenser keeps the toilet paper in an accessible position, as well as fostering good hygiene and cleanliness. To this day, her invention is used for dispensing toilet paper in our bathrooms, and we also use her model for dispensing paper towels in our kitchen. 🧻🙌

What people say
Ross Family McDonald's, located on Nogalitos Street in San Antonio, has received mixed reviews from newspaper critics and customers alike. Here are a few examples of what they've had to say:
A review from the San Antonio Express-News published in April praised the restaurant for its cleanliness and customer service, but criticized the food for being "mediocre at best." Another review from the same publication, published only a month later, called out the restaurant for poor hygiene practices in the kitchen.
A Yelp review from June 2021 echoed this sentiment: "I understand that fast food is not supposed to be gourmet, but this place takes it to another level. The burgers are always overcooked and dry, and I've seen employees handling food without gloves on multiple occasions."
However, not all reviews have been negative. A review from the San Antonio Current published in January commended Ross Family McDonald's for its commitment to using fresh ingredients and reducing waste.
A Google review from May praised the affordability of the menu items: "I came here with my family of five and we were able to eat for under $20. The value here is unbeatable."
Overall, it seems that opinions about Ross Family McDonald's vary greatly depending on who you ask. While some appreciate its commitment to sustainability and affordability, others are put off by issues with cleanliness and food quality.
