A FAMILY. A MARKET TURNED KOREAN RESTAURANT.
MORE THAN FOUR DECADES OF MEMORIES. ❤️

Since 1982, Mr. and Mrs. Kim have called Chas Market & Kitchen more than a business. They have called it home.

As Korean immigrants building a new life in San Antonio, the Kim family purchased Chas Market from the De Leon family and began a journey that would continue for more than 40 years at the same location on 1431 N. Pine Street.

But the story of Chas began long before them.
Not long ago, Officer Martinez shared an incredible photograph of Chas Market from 1945. His father worked here from 1945 until 1975, and in that old photograph you can still recognize the same building standing today.

The original owners, Charles De Leon and his wife, built Chas as a neighborhood market and a place where employees, families, and the community could come together.

When Mr. and Mrs. Kim took over in 1982, they carried that legacy forward.

Over the decades, San Antonio changed.
Our neighborhood changed.
And Chas changed too.

The little taco stand in the corner became one of the things our customers love most—especially our breakfast tacos.

Mrs. Kim began sharing the homemade Korean food and side dishes she prepared with love, introducing generations of San Antonio customers to another part of her family and culture.

What started as a neighborhood supermarket became something we could never have imagined: a meeting place of cultures, generations, families, friendships, and countless memories.

Through good years and difficult years, one thing has remained the same:
our customers kept walking through our doors.

Some of you have been coming here for decades.
Some came with your parents and now bring your own children.
Some stop in every week for tacos.
Some discovered us through Korean food.

And some simply know Chas as part of the neighborhood.

To every person who has supported this little family business through the years:
Thank you.

You are the reason the doors are still open.

The Kim family has never forgotten the De Leon family who entrusted this place to them, and we remain deeply grateful for the history that came before us.

And to Officer Martinez, thank you for giving us this photograph and helping us see just how much history lives inside these walls.
From 1945 to today, generations of San Antonio families have passed through Chas.

And since 1982, Mr. and Mrs. Kim have had the privilege of serving you.

Our hope is simple:
to keep serving this city, this neighborhood, and the families we love from this same little corner for many more years to come.
