IMPORTANT MOMENTS IN THE HISTORY OF THE WORLD.....

On August 6th, 1945, at 8:15 am, the first nuclear weapon detonated during wartime was detonated over Hiroshima Japan. On July 21st, 1969, at 9:32 am, Neil Armstrong placed the first human foot on the moon. On August 29th, 1997 at 2:14 am, Skynet first becomes "self-aware"...(At least that's what they say in the Terminator movie anyway.....) And at approximately 11:06 pm on Sunday, April 12th, 2026, our last official night at the store -- with not a single extra day to get this accomplished and barely a few hours left on the clock -- we finally caught "Baby Genghis" (that beautiful elusive white cat) !!! She is home with us now doing great. I spontaneously broke out into my best "I HAVE MADE FIRE" impression a la Tom Hanks, from that Castaway movie scene for those who remember what I'm referring to (he was so proud to have finally made a fire).

For many people closing down a business whether it's permanently or temporarily, there are no doubt many things on their minds and on their to-do lists. I gather that for many, worrying about the neighborhood cats is probably not top priority. But we are animal lovers here as much as we are foodies (perhaps even more so), and have been very worried about this little angel for a long time. We were dreadfully anticipating the day when our last day here would finally come, and we had still not been able to catch her yet. (She has been impossible to get for years .....we have tried many times...and even called in a "professional trapper" once who also could not get her....) (and yes, we know "Genghis" is a boy's name, but she looks so much like another cat of ours so that's what we call her, we're pretty sure she doesn't mind... ) Anyway, by the grace of God and maybe some good luck thrown in too, and having learned from our mistakes / failed attempts with her in the past, we adjusted our strategy with her, and finally succeeded (after 5 1/2 plus years), and couldn't be more relieved and happy about it !!! So for those folks who have been emailing about lending a hand (for the cats they think we might have been forced to leave behind), we sincerely thank you, but please don't worry, not yet anyway: There are only 2 left and we are still trying to catch them, even now. These last 2 might indeed prove to be un-catchable, but we have hardly given up yet, and still take care of them every night.

Store Closure Update:

In follow-up to our post from last week, we wanted to let everybody know that we have actually begun the move-out process as of today, April 7th. We were able to find ourselves a good Commercial Mover (not always so easy to do that in this city, we had a bad experience once before), and though we had wanted to operate a little while longer, they (these Movers) had definite availability specifically for today, and so we decided to go with it. We figured perhaps it's best to leave a little early with a Mover we are comfortable with, rather than wait until last minute, and not be in total control of who we can get at that moment. SO, we made significant progress today, and will not be baking or cooking from here forward, we have effectively ceased operations as of today. We will complete the move-out (the remaining small stuff) throughout the week.

We will be off for at least 6 weeks -- possibly longer -- to catch our breath, and to deal with some pressing family issues in the wake of my Mom's recent death. Some of you who have stopped in to chat with us, know what I'm dealing with... So, we actually look forward to the opportunity to get things in order, and to get some rest: We have not had a proper break / proper vacation from running this business, since 2013....and we don't count Covid-19 as a true break / vacation either, as being forced out of work for 18 months bc of something like that, was hardly relaxing either....So we look forward to a true break. We will post about what we will do next once we have decided that. We wish everybody the best, and thank you all.

REMINDER RE HOLIDAY PICK-UPS:

This is a polite reminder to those folks who still have special orders to pick-up, that we might close a bit early tonight as things tend to die out towards the end of the night on Easter Sunday.

For those looking to walk in for last minute stuff, we still have Homemade Chocolate Ganache Cake, Homemade Cheesecake, Homemade Tarte Tatin (European Style Apple Pie), Homemade Coconut Cake, & Homemade Profiteroles. We MIGHT be able to do another batch of cookies but we need to double check the count, as I think they have all been reserved already, but let me double check.

The homemade quiche today are Lorraine (Bacon and Onion), and also two with Mushroom and Spinach .

For our Homemade Ice Cream we are getting very low, we only have Speculoos (Dutch Butter Cookie), Fresh Strawberry, and Sweet Cream available .

Folks: Our 5 1/2 year lease has run its course, and we will be leaving soon. Day to day operations will be essentially the same during this winding down period, ie, same product offerings, same days and hours of operation, etc, with just one notable exception being that we have sent our waffle grills off to Belgium to be properly repaired and recalibrated, so we will not be making waffles during this last phase of operations. But that said, pretty much business as usual until the very end, we can even continue to take special orders (cakes, pies, quiche, etc) right up until our last few days, provided you give us enough time to fill the order (usually just 2-3 days). But wow, 5plus years have ticked by already since we opened this location, right smack in the middle of Covid, wow....We can actually remember the first time we met many of the people who turned out to be our regular customers over the years here.....Anyway, there's time to get sentimental another day, but for now, we just wanted to give everybody the heads up.
