JANUARY 1st, 2024

It is with great sadness that we must announce the closure of the Mad Dogs Restaurant Group beloved BIER GARTEN.

The BIER GARTEN led the way in selling San Antonio apres dining, outdoor entertainment and giant liter beer steins. Starting at the time when the national focus was on craft beers and whilst simultaneously pioneering the rebirth of the casual outdoor icehouse feel .

Opening in August 2013 the Bier Garten was a landmark success. In the high traffic location directly between the Alamo and the Riverwalk, the two most visited tourist destinations in the state of Texas. The Bier Garten was a success from day one. The fun party has gone on for over 10 years and the business has been a complete success.

The Bier Garten was deliberately positioned to be affordable and accessible for locals & families alike, who are so often neglected because of the lucrative tourist and convention visitor to San Antonio. Every year we put on tremendous entertainment and a huge party to celebrate Oktoberfest. Oktoberfest in Bavaria is the worldโ€™s largest international fair regularly featuring 6000,000 visitors to Germany to celebrate and to taste the craft beers of Germany.

The Munich based brewery Hofbrau, was the founding brewery of Oktoberfest. During the launch of the Bier Garten, we worked closely with Hofbrau to guarantee the most perfect Bavarian offering. The tiny space proudly sold more Hofbrau beer than any other business in the state of Texas.

The Bier accountant leaves San Antonio locals with many fond memories. The restaurants workforce (who happily donned dirndls and leather shorts to work) of 40 is hoped to be absorbed into other Mad Dog restaurants.

This is a pause in the legendary journey of The Bier Garten. The bar that launched more than a dozen subsequent Texas beer gardens will return soon we hope. We make way for the reimagined and spectacular rebirth of our beloved Alamo. The Bier Garten space is being repurposed to complement the massively impressive Alamo project.

In the meantimeโ€ฆ..
So itโ€™s a sad farewell but NOT GOODBYE as we embark on the journey to find a suitably space to relocate our beloved Bier Garten.

Prost Yโ€™All!

Thanks for all the memories!

CEO / The Mad Dogs Restaurant Group
