🌹 Honoring Our Beloved Madrina, Rosemary Kowalski 🌹

Today, we join the Kowalski Family and San Antonio in celebrating the extraordinary life and legacy of Rosemary Kowalski, a woman whose contributions to our community will never be forgotten. To La Familia Cortez, she was more than a trailblazer—she was our "madrina," a guiding light and beloved part of our family.

Rosemary’s passion for excellence and her dedication to uplifting others made her a true icon of our city. Her friendship was a blessing, her mentorship a gift, and her love an everlasting treasure.

As we reflect on the countless memories shared with her, we are reminded of her profound impact on our lives and her unmatched spirit of generosity and kindness. She embodied the heart and soul of San Antonio, and her legacy will continue to inspire us for generations to come.

Your love and light will forever remain in our hearts, Mi Tierra’s American Dream mural and in the city you so deeply cherished.

Que Descanses en Paz, Madrina Rosemary ❤️

It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that Jorge's children—Pete, Deborah, Christina, Paloma, Cariño, Alexandra, and Sol Jorge—announce the passing of our beloved father. Jorge departed this life on November 11, surrounded by his loving family, including his children, the mothers of his children, Barbara and Rosa, and his many grandchildren.

Jorge was a visionary, a mentor, and a man whose spirit reached far beyond our family and our family of restaurants. To those who knew him, he was a beacon of warmth and wisdom, leading with a heart rooted deeply in faith. Jorge’s dedication to hospitality transcended service—he embraced every team member as family, instilling values of hard work, compassion, and integrity. His leadership shaped countless lives, and his influence within our organization became a source of strength, inspiration, and legacy for us all.

An artist in both vision and heart, Jorge’s creativity brought our restaurants to life. Every detail, from the vibrant murals in Mi Tierra to the curated elements that celebrate our Mexican heritage, was a reflection of his commitment to authenticity and beauty. Jorge’s culinary innovation extended beyond these spaces—his invention of sizzling fajitas forever changed the Tex-Mex experience, adding a beloved tradition to kitchens and tables across the world.

Known by all in his signature red apron, white hat, guayabera, and slacks, Jorge was a San Antonio icon who embodied the spirit and resilience of the Latino community. His passion for art and cultura extended beyond our family business, driving his instrumental role in creating San Antonio's Zona Cultural, a legacy that was formally recognized by the City of San Antonio. He envisioned a thriving cultural corridor from Main Plaza to El Mercado, linking the heart of our city’s heritage to the Riverwalk. Milam Park was especially dear to him, where he envisioned a communal space where families could gather and celebrate the city’s vibrant culture. As a patron of the arts, Jorge also championed his dear friend Jesse Treviño’s renowned mural at Christus Santa Rosa Hospital, a powerful symbol of hope and healing that embodies the beauty and strength of our community. This vision has transformed our city, honoring the spirit of those who came before and enriching the lives of generations to come.

Jorge’s legacy is deeply interwoven into the fabric of La Familia Cortez and is a beacon for all who are committed to preserving the traditions and community values he championed. Like his father, Jorge held his Mexican American heritage close to his heart, and he recently fulfilled a personal dream, proudly becoming a Mexican citizen. His enduring dedication to San Antonio’s Latino cultura not only preserved but celebrated the beauty and strength of our community, leaving an indelible mark on our city.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to all who feel this loss alongside us. Further details about memorial arrangements will follow in the coming days.

May Jorge’s spirit continue to guide and inspire us always.
