The restaurant's location is simply breathtaking, with patios that offer stunning views of the river and towering oak trees providing ample shade. The ambiance is perfect for a casual dining experience with friends and family. The history of the building adds to its charm as it was once a water-powered mill that processed crops raised by area farmers until it burned down in 1922. Today, all that remains of the mill is the three-story brick boiler room which now houses Gristmill River Restaurant & Bar.
The menu at Gristmill River Restaurant & Bar features thick steaks, large hamburgers, South Texas fare like chicken fried steak, fried catfish, grilled chicken, enormous sandwiches, fresh fish and special dishes like tomatillo chicken and bronzed catfish. And if you have a sweet tooth, then you must try their famous desserts like fudge pie, enormous strawberry shortcake or their signature Jack Daniel's Pecan Pie.
To complement your meal, they have a full bar with a good wine list and fresh squeezed lime margaritas which are big hits among customers.
