This year’s labor of love for my Calliope’s 5th birthday!…

Here’s just a few pics. As I do every year, I made a larger dummy cake along with sugar cookies, chocolate dipped pretzels and chocolate dipped Rice Krispie treats. Normally I serve cupcakes after we sing Happy Birthday to her, but this year, my idea was to have every centerpiece at the tables be a cake. So…15 cakes and 7 different flavor combinations later, it happened!

Right before we sang happy birthday, we passed out pre-packaged bags with cake plates, forks, napkins and a cake cutter to each table. Immediately after, everyone was able to cut their cake at their table and we encouraged everyone to mingle and find different cake flavors if they wanted. I think that was my favorite part!

Was it A LOT of work? Absolutely. But would I do it again in a heartbeat? You bet I would!

Another labor of love…this was a dessert table for my MIL’s 60th birthday! It included: a 5-layer chocolate cake, 118 vanilla tres leches, 17 dozen hojarascas, 12 dozen polvorones, 50 mini conchas and 50 slices of cortadillo (icing was yellow because that’s her favorite color).

Side note: butterfly sightings are her reminder that her mother is watching over her, so of course, I added a single butterfly to her cake.
