Owner, cashier, packer, cleaner, content creator, problem solver, and whatever else the day decides to add.
Small business life means wearing every hat, and somehow my mom wears all of them better than the rest of us. 🧡

The ultimate plot twist: our best-selling Indian dish is one my family wouldn’t touch back home in India! 🇮🇳😅
When we first opened, customers kept telling us our Saag Paneer tasted too much like spinach. Traditional saag paneer is bright green and super spinach-forward—not loaded up with heavy cream. But after a little Americanizing (a.k.a. adding a lot more cream), it instantly became a crowd favorite!
Even our Indian customers love it—except for one person: my dad, who actually wants to taste his greens! That’s why we ended up creating our Sag Chana (spinach with chickpeas and zero dairy) for him and our vegan customers, giving you a version closer to what you’d actually find back in India.

We got a customer's order wrong. Or so we thought.
Getting that call as a restaurant owner never gets easier. Twelve years in and my heart still races every single time.
But here's what I've learned: if you love a small business, please call them when something feels off. It's scary for us to hear. But it gives us a chance to make it right. A review doesn't do that. A phone call does.
We pulled the order, made a fresh batch, tasted it ourselves. Everything was exactly how it should be. Then we figured out what actually happened and honestly, we all ended up laughing.
That's the kind of relationship we want with our customers. Real, honest, human. Not perfect, but always willing to fix it.

If you have an Indian mom, leftover food never ends up in the trash. Ever.
At 7 Monks, what happens at the end of the night is one of my favorite things about this place. My mom looks at what is left, gets quiet for a second, and then she starts. A spice here, a splash of coconut milk there. Next thing I know she is calling me over and telling me to go offer it to a table.
Every time I walk over and say "my mom made something different, want to try it?" people light up. It never gets old.
For the things we cannot turn into something new, the food goes home with our staff or gets donated the same day to local shelters and programs in New Braunfels. Because food is love. It is meant to be shared, not wasted.
That is just how my mom raised me. And it is how we run this restaurant. 🙏🏽

The daily tasks I somehow signed up for when I decided to own a restaurant 😂
Some days I’m working on the food, some days I’m helping with catering, some days I’m making content, and other days I’m doing a little bit of everything. I’ve honestly lost count of how many jobs come with owning 7 Monks, but as crazy as it gets, I still find it so fun and rewarding. 🧡
September is already keeping us BUSY in the best way. We’re trying new things, working on ideas I’ve been wanting to bring to life, and continuing to build 7 Monks one day at a time.
And yes… there is definitely more happening behind the scenes than what makes it into the reels. 😂 Can’t wait to share more soon!
