Paynefully Good BBQ took the almost 800 mile round trip journey to beautiful Fort Davis for the Smoke in the Mountains BBQ & Ribeye Shootout. Jennifer Probst-Webster knows how to throw an amazing event and Brenda Waters kept the judging room running smoothly. Tracy Hugdahl Spruill (Kicking Ash BBQ) kept all the kids sugared up with Popsicles and Slushies!
We took a short road trip on Friday to Balmorhea Springs with The Chopping Block Webster and Kuykendall BBQ so the kids could enjoy a beautiful morning in a pool.
The kids had big plans for burgers, and right as they started cooking... a monsoon came. They overcame it and got their boxes turned in. Between the rain and not cooking in our trailer we had our share of mishaps and forgotten items - but were overall happy with our turnins.
After the smoke cleared we finished with...
2nd Kids ๐
3rd Kids aka the littlest Payne ๐
13th Kids
29th Ribeye
17th Margarita
14th Salsa
39th Stupid Chicken
8th Ribs ๐
24th Brisket
7th Cabrito
9th Dessert
Good enough for 15th overall out of 60 great teams and 4th overall overall!!
And one dead bird on the way home. ๐ซฃ
Congrats to everyone who heard their song. Can't wait until next year!

The thing with competition bbq is you never know what you are going to get.
This weekend was extra hard as we are still without a truck - and you dont realize how much stuff ends up in the truck for a cookoff....
The weather stayed away for the most part until brisket turn in. Then came down fast and hard.
When the smoke cleared.... the margarita and dessert didnt place when we would have bet on those.... but
6th Chili ๐ถ
9th Bloody Mary ๐
1st Beans ๐ซ
3rd Chicken ๐
1st Ribs ๐ท
4th Brisket ๐ฎ
Grand Champion

Paynefully Good BBQ rolled into Stonewall, Texas for the annual Hill Country Builders Association BBQ Cookoff. Our first time cooking this event and a year in the making as we have heard it is a blast. We made a grand entrance with a little mud on the tires!
Everything went super smooth, but we were a little discouraged when none of our jackpots hit and were 9 calls into ๐ still hadn't given up our ticket.... but we ended up with
1st Stupid Chicken - It was beautiful.
2nd Rib
5th Brisket - True backyard style
GRAND CHAMPION ๐ out of 44 teams!
Congratulations to Jay Tinney on your 1st Ribs, 1st Brisket and RGC. It was a pleasure being setup beside you and hearing all the stories of BBQ many years ago. That era of BBQ is something special.
Congrats to our friends at LIT UP BBQ of your 1st place Cooks Choice!
Thank you to Builders First Source for continuing to allow us to represent you at these events.

Paynefully Good BBQ would like to THANK everyone that stopped by to see us at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo BBQ Cookoff. As Life Members of the Rodeo it is our goal to raise as much money as possible for the Scholarship Fund through the Kash4Kids program. Our BBQ family kids did a phenomenal job selling lemonade, hot chocolate and other goodies.
We could not have made it through the weekend without our SA Rodeo Wine Committee family. The memories and laughs made the cold days short!

What people say
Paynefully Good BBQ is a true gem in San Antonio's culinary scene. This caterer started as a passion project for Nick, who began smoking meat for his family and friends. With several friendly competition wins under his belt, he co-founded The Dirt Road Smokers Competition BBQ team, which became incredibly successful and won numerous awards.
Now, Paynefully Good BBQ has taken the reins as the Competition BBQ Team and continues to impress with their mouth-watering dishes. Although competitions have been limited due to COVID-19 and family obligations, they have still managed to rack up some impressive awards.
What sets Paynefully Good BBQ apart is their dedication to quality ingredients and traditional smoking techniques. They are always on the lookout for additional sponsors for events throughout the year, including the SA Rodeo BBQ Cookoff.
Whether you're looking to cater a small gathering or a large event, Paynefully Good BBQ is more than happy to provide a quote. Their limited catering opportunities are not to be missed! For those interested in trying their delicious food, be sure to reach out to them at [email protected].
